5 tips to elevate your kitchen this Autumn!
Looking to feel cosy while preparing your meals this Autumn? In this article, Chris Dance, Director and Head Designer from the kitchen specialists InHouse shares his top tips for bringing some seasonal warmth to your kitchen just in time for Autumn.
They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home, so it's important to make it a room that you love. And over lockdown, many people have chosen to transform their kitchen with a renovation. In fact, 22% of the home renovations done in the UK in 2020 were kitchen-based. If yours hasn't seen an update in quite a while, or even if it has and you're just in the mood for a change, take some time to update the style to make it even more special.
There are a number of factors to consider when it comes to the style you opt for, such as practicality, your personal taste, and the latest design trends. But have you thought of considering the change of seasons for some inspiration?
Autumn is just around the corner, and with it comes an array of beautiful styles to choose from, made up of warming colours, textures, and a wide range of accessories. Plus, these gorgeous themes are fashionable even when the season is over and will look stylish for years to come.
If you want to elevate your kitchen this autumn, consider using the following five tips.
1. Use warm and stylish colours
Make your kitchen inviting by using an array of warm shades inspired by the autumn season. Hues such as warm gold, peach, and rich cream can add a really cosy vibe to the room, while still keeping it light enough to make the space seem larger. If you're looking for an even bolder statement, contrast these colours with richer shades, such as deep green, mustard, or burnt orange.
Not only are warm colour palettes perfect for creating a comfortable atmosphere, they're all the rage at the minute too. The Dulux Colour of the Year, Brave Ground, is a beautifully warm and earthy tone that adds a relaxing feel to any room, and works well with a range of colours.
2. Add some texture
Once you've chosen the colours for your updated kitchen, choose textures that complement them. Reclaimed wood is a great choice of texture for warm and neutral tones, and can be used in a number of ways, including floor boards, surfaces and on cabinets. Exposed brickwork is also a great way to add a rustic charm that's perfect for kitchens.
Though you may think that soft furnishings belong in the living room, fabric can also be brought into the kitchen to create both a cosy atmosphere and add some beautiful patterns too. Opt for coloured fabric-covered stools and dining chairs, or if you'd rather, simply add a cushion to the ones you already have. The best thing about using cushions is that you can update the design whenever you like, so you can always bring a new style to the kitchen.
3. Accessorise with ornaments
Although many people consider them to simply be the finishing touches, the right accessories can completely change the feel of a room. Not only do they make the space feel more lived in, but they can give your home a personal touch that other design elements can't. Just because your kitchen needs to be practical, doesn't mean you can't add some ornamental elements here too.
There are plenty of ways you can use accessories to bring Autumnal vibes into your kitchen. A great place to start is by dotting a couple of eye-catching and colourful jars around the room and filling them with dry flowers, or fresh flowers grown in season, such as dahlias or sunflowers.
Artwork can also completely transform the space and is a great way to make your kitchen stand out from the rest. Beautiful landscapes of forests and sunsets work particularly well with autumnal colours. However, don't be afraid to step outside the box and choose something completely different. And, to bring a personal touch to the space, add a few pictures of your loved ones.
4. Upgrade your technology
There's no better way to elevate your kitchen than by updating your appliances. Not only does using the most up-to-date technology make both the cooking and baking process much easier and more predictable, modern appliances look stunning too. There's a wide range of styles to choose from when it comes to contemporary kitchen necessities, so you're sure to find something that suits you.
You can opt for the highest quality appliances, as they’ll make food preparation so much easier and stand the rest of time. And, as well as treating yourself to the best quality cookers, extractor hoods, and fridges and freezers, remember to update your smaller appliances too, such as the kettle and the toaster, to fit your new aesthetic.
5. Elevate your menu choices
Once your kitchen revamp is complete, elevate your cooking and dining experience even more by finding a range of delicious new recipes to go with it. You can use them to impress your guests when they come to see your new décor! So many tasty and warming meals are perfect for Autumn, such as pumpkin soup, stew and dumplings, and baked apples. To make your dishes extra special, use the best quality ingredients to really ramp up the flavour —leaving your guests begging for seconds!
If you use the tips above, you'll be able to enjoy your kitchen revamp in the Autumn months and beyond. For more help designing your dream home, make sure to check out the services offered by Sibylle Clerey Interiors.
